The Maxim was Yamaha's factory-custom take on the XJ650 four: a cruiser-styled shaft-drive 650 with a low seat and a narrow engine. The 1982 version added a more comfortable handlebar, an air-adjustable fork and a better seat. It was quick for its class with a 12.6 s quarter mile, and its price dropped as the cruiser boom moved on.
